Chapter 9: The Softmod Section

This is the first screen you see which displays your options. Just a quick note, make sure you don’t forget to install your chosen SID (3 or 4) in the Advanced Options section if you wish to boot the Gamesave via the original game.
SID 3.1 NKpatcher Options
With NKpatcher you are given the two options of Single Boot and Dual Boot.

With the Single boot the installer asks for the location you want to load your dashboard from: C:\evoxdash.xbe, E:\evoxdash.xbe etc. You even have the option just to boot the MS Dash and make your Xbox look like it’s never been touched.
With the Dual Boot option it gets a little bit more complicated, firstly here’s a screenshot of the options (these are the same identical options as given in PBL):
You will notice two different boot types next to each other. The one on the left is for the Power button boot, and the right is for when you start your Xbox with the DVD Tray open.
If you wish to use a Hacked Dash in the Dual boot, you MUST also install the Hacked Dash Loader shown at the top of this menu here (selecting where you want to boot from as well i.e.: C:\evoxdash.xbe).
SID 3.1 PBL Options
This is the first options you will see, to install the Loader, and then select the BIOS Files you want the Loader to boot. Please remember there are more BIOS files available on the Auto-Installer Deluxe 3 disc.

With the loader you are given the two options of Single Boot and Dual Boot.
With the Single boot the installer asks for the location you want to load your dashboard from: E:\evoxdash.xbe, F:\evoxdash.xbe etc. You even have the option just to boot the MS Dash and make your Xbox look like it’s never been touched.
With the Dual Boot option it gets a little bit more complicated, firstly here’s a screenshot of the options.

You will notice two different boot types next to each other. The one on the left is for the Power button boot, and the right is for when you start your Xbox with the DVD Tray open.
If you wish to use a Hacked Dash in the Dual boot, you MUST also install the Hacked Dash Loader shown at the top of this menu here (selecting the same boot location as well i.e.: E:\evoxdash.xbe).
PLEASE NOTE: PBL Users can only select to boot from E, F, and G. There is no C Drive support due to lack of space in the Gamesave.
SID 4.5 NKpatcher Options
There are 3 types of softmod available, all giving the choice of UnleashX or EvolutionX as an installed dashboard.
Please be aware that SID 4.5 will take around 15-30 seconds to install a file called "shadowc.img", so if you see that it looks like if it froze, don't panic, let it run.
Single Boot: This simply just boots your installed dashboard.
Dual Boot (Open=Gamesave): This option allows you to power up your Xbox with the Eject Button (i.e.: DVD Tray Open) and access the Softmod Menu. Closed tray boots your installed dashboard.
Dual Boot Ndure (Open=Retail): This option allows you to power up your Xbox with the Eject Button and access the Retail MS Dashboard, which is good to use for Xbox Live. Closed tray boots your installed dashboard.
Patching the MS Dashboard for SID 3.1 (Patch MS 5960)
Now that your Xbox is Softmodded, it’s time to put the MS Dash back on to C Drive.
When the Softmod is installed, the contents of C Drive are removed, hence why it is important to have a backup of the MS Dash before doing any modifications.
PLEASE NOTE: If you do not have the correct version of the MS Dash, you CAN turn off your Xbox, insert Auto-Installer Deluxe, and install the MS Dashboard from there (which is the version needed for the Softmod). After this go back to Chapter 5 and boot the Softmod Installer again.
What this patch does is firstly copy the files from C Drive to a temporary storage place, and then it copies the MS Dash back to C. Now, after that it grabs the files from the backup and fixes up the C Drive so it’s still Softmodded, but the MS Dash is accessible via C:\msdash.xbe. All the dashboards (configured for softmods) in the SID and AID packages are configured so that they recognize this when you launch the MS Dashboard from your desired Dashboard (being UnleashX, EvoX etc.).
Removing the SID 3.1 Softmod
There is one of two ways you could do this. Either by using the Remove SID 3.1 Softmod option in the Softmod menu, or by Formatting C Drive and Installing the MS Dash again. Which ever way you decide you will be back to an unmodded state.
Removing the SID 4.5 Softmod
There are two steps to this. Firstly, you have to unmount the Virtual C Drive, which is done by selecting the Unmount Virtual C for SID 4 option in the Softmod menu.
After this, proceed to use the Remove SID 4.5 Softmod option.
